Shaping the world of tomorrow
Dear Friends of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM,

"Shaping the world of tomorrow"

We have chosen this request as the annual motto for the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM in 2016. "Shape the world of tomorrow" is an appeal directed towards us all/ all of us so that we can use the opportunities the world offers us constructively. Living together in a society and the natural environment surrounding us are closely intertwined. Consequently/Therefore, we must treat both with care and a look ahead/carefully and with an eye to the future. The growing world population increasingly requires us to take on global responsibility in our activities. If we fail to do so, we will lay the ground for social inequalities, hunger and conflicts, for wars and terrorism caused by overexploitation of existing resources and misuse of social conditions. The scholarship holders and also the alumni of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM show that cosmopolitanism is possible on human foundations. Every day they practice intercultural and interreligious understanding showing the will to make peaceful coexistence possible on the world we have been given. The summer festival and the annual meeting in November again will offer the platforms for our scholarship holders to present their wide range of ideas.

The newsletter below will provide suggestions for how you can help shape the world of tomorrow, too.

News from the Programme

MEETING OF THE 33RD CENTRAL SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTTEE
On 14 June the 33rd scholarship committee met at the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for university students. Representatives of the Baden-Württemberg universities, of the Ministry of Science, Research and Arts as well as alumni of the programme agreed on the proposed scholarship awards for 2016/17. We cordially welcome our new scholarship holders to the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM network!

Overcoming Boundaries
Students have to overcome many barriers during the course of their studies. Many different challenges confront them, for example when exploring new surroundings. For people with a handicap/special need, even everyday situations, such as attending a lecture, can present really insuperable obstacles. The decision of our deaf scholarship holder Katharina to spend time abroad in Canada, is therefore all the more impressive. She shares with us in how her semester abroad influenced her attitude to herself and her supposed "handicap". Read her story here.

AN EXCITING TIME OF YEAR!
The selection committee of the BWS plus projects 2016/2017 met in March. While some people are still waiting to finally get started, the projects selected last year are already in the process of being implemented. You will find a list of all the applications accepted and current information on our website.

WHAT IS A PHYSIOTHERAPIST DOING IN OXFORD?
The dual education system is highly regarded. At an international level, professional training can be ranged with a bachelor's degree. In this way our scholarship holder Christina succeeded in obtaining a place to study at Oxford Brookes University in Great Britain. The Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM for Vocationally Qualified People supported her in completing a master's degree in the field of neurorehabilitation. You can find out what Christina experienced during her deployment abroad and what Sir Elton John has to do with this. Find out  here.

Berlin is regarded as a world-class city of culture, politics, media and science. It is consequently not surprising that alumni of the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM are active there. On 2 May we paid an exclusive visit with these alumni to the re-publica conference in order to find out about the latest trends in digital marketing and network technologies. At the joint evening meal the focus was on getting to know each other and strengthening the Baden-Württemberg-STIPENDIUM network.

RC cologne
The Regional Chapter Cologne is up and running again. Three incentives: exciting discussions, good moderation and after the event a cosy get-together in the Barber Shop - that was the BEAUTY IS ADDICTIVE event of the RC Cologne in the cathedral city on 27 May.
